Unesco why teach about the holocaust




















Hundreds of emerging leaders from across the globe visit the Museum every year through State Department programs, including its International Visitor Leadership Program. Visitors tour exhibitions and meet with educators, historians, and other experts.

The IHRA is the only organization that unites governments and experts together to advance Holocaust education, research, and remembrance. Through this conference, educational leaders and experts design and implement projects relevant to their national contexts.

To date, 16 countries have participated in this ongoing capacity-building program. These resources have been used by dozens of UN information centers and offices around the world. Some Were Neighbors is featured on the United Nations website.

The alarming rise of anti-Semitism threatens the security of Jewish communities and individuals around the world. Divided into four distinct volumes, the new publication includes targeted curricula for trainers of primary education teachers, secondary education teachers, vocational education teachers and school directors.

Teaching and learning about the Holocaust, which until this point had largely been a matter of regional interest, for Europeans, as well as North Americans and Israelis, became officially an issue of universal concern. Other countries are now invited to teach about the Holocaust even if they do not have a direct link to the event. This raises many issues concerning the pedagogical implications of this global perspective on Holocaust education.
